What Does It Mean To Do God’s Work?

As Christians, it’s common to hear the phrase “doing God’s work.” But what is God’s work, exactly? God's work is anything that aligns with His purposes on Earth. Ultimately, His purpose is to restore the relationship between Himself and humanity through Jesus Christ (John 3:16). As we pursue this goal together—as individuals who have come into a relationship with God through faith in Christ—we are able to do His will on Earth as well as in heaven (Matthew 6:10).

While our individual tasks vary greatly from one another based on our gifts and callings within the body of Christ (Romans 12), there are some common elements among all believers when they seek to fulfill their role in this pursuit: namely love and service.

God can use anyone to do His work. This is a wonderful truth that we should never forget as we go about our daily lives. People of faith have a hard time accepting this idea, though. They sometimes think that only certain people are capable of doing God's work, but the Bible says otherwise:

For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.” - Ephesians 2:10

And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus…” - Colossians 3:17

God has given each one of us talents and abilities, and He has placed us where we are today for a reason. As long as your goal is to honour Him by using these gifts for His glory and purposes instead of yourself or your own benefit, then any task you take on will be done in accordance with God's will and purpose for your life.

God's work doesn't have to be something big either. It just has to be something meaningful. He is at work through a mother who cares for her daughter when she’s sick, through a teacher who helps one student find their passion for learning, or even through someone who provides a meal to the homeless.

He does His work through all of us every day—and it isn't always easy or glamorous—but it matters because it shows love and compassion to others, which are two things we're called by God to do while here on this earth.

What doing God’s work ultimately comes down to is whether you can find a way to help others and make their lives better through your actions—whether that means caring for them, providing for them, protecting them, or any combination of those things.
