What Is A Donor Advised Fund?

A Donor Advised Fund (DAF) is a separately identified account that a donor can set up inside of a public foundation recognized by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). It is set up so the donor can recommend to the foundation which registered charities or qualified donees will receive funds and at what time. The donations made by the donor are tax-deductible. A DAF is similar to a charitable foundation but without the added administration and cost of operating expenses. This means more of the donor's gift goes directly to the charitable cause.
